Using the ChainLinx Smart Client

The ChainLinx Smart Client allows disconnected users to capture information about warrants (submissions) so that it can be imported into ChainLinx.

Start the Smart Client

1. Open the Smart Client Application directory.
2. Double-click the ChainLinxSmartClient application (NOT .exe) file.

Enter Agency Information

1. Enter your agency name.
2. Enter your name.
3. Enter your agency's case number.
4. Check the primary agency check box if this is the primary agency on this submission. You can add more than one agency.
5. Click save to save your information or click clear to start over.
6. When you are done adding agencies, click the next button.

Add Individuals

1. Add information about the individual. You must enter at least a last name. The type is usually "suspect," "victim," etc.
2. Add an address of the individual if desired.
3. Click save to save this information or click clear to start over. You can add more than one individual.
4. Click the next button to move forward. You can also go back to any prior screen.

Add Offenses

1. Add information about the offense.
2. Add an address of the offense if desired.
3. Click save to save this information or click clear to start over. You can add more than one offense.
4. Click the next button to move forward. You can also go back to any prior screen.

Add Items

1. Add information about the item. You must enter at least an item number and description.
In the parent field, select an item you already entered if the item you are entering should inherit the chain of custody of that item. In the container field, select an item you have already entered if the item you are entering is contained within that item.
2. Click save to save this information or click clear to start over. You can add more than one item.
3. Click the next button to move forward. You can also go back to any prior screen.
4. Items appear in a tree-view at the top of the screen. Click the genealogy option to see how items are related based on the PARENT field. Click the container option to see how items are related based on the CONTAINER field.

Name the Warrant

1. In the warrant number box, you can specify the warrant number that should be related to this submission or you can use the default value supplied.
2. When you have finished, click the done (check) button.

Submit the Warrant

When the data has been saved and you are done with the wizard, click the yes button to submit the warrant. If your agency is directly connected to an evidence room using ChainLinx, the file will be submitted. If the file cannot be automatically sent, you must save the file and submit it manually.

Saving the File

If the automatic submission could not be completed, save the file as an XML file. Remember where you saved this file because this is what must be delivered to the property room to allow them to import the information you recorded using the Smart Client.
